Fenche Shen is the founder of Luwak Star. She was inspired to import the rare and incredibly tasty coffee to the United States and to support local agriculture in Indonesia, and she established Luwak Star in early 2011.

Fenche was born and raised in Jakarta, Indonesia, and migrated to the U.S. when she was 17 years old. After hearing about luwak coffee, on a visit to her homeland in 2010, Fenche began her thorough research: understanding the careful cultivation and preparation process for this special coffee and meeting with coffee producers. Fenche felt it was important to not only ensure the integrity of this fine coffee outside of Indonesia, but also to support international trade and the lives of local coffee farmers in Indonesia. These objectives are embedded in Luwak’s Star’s business philosophy.

Luwak Star is currently working on getting fair trade certified and working with organic and fair trade certified coffee producers. Luwak Star wants to help empower farmers to get fair prices for their harvests, create safe working environments for their workers and give the farmers and their families better standards of living. By supporting fair trade certified coffee, Luwak Star hopes that farming and working families can improve their health and housing, promote their children’s education and invest for the future.

Fenche is proud to promote premium gourmet coffee, Luwak Star, but also to be able to showcase and give back to her home country, Indonesia.

Fenche currently lives in Houston, Texas with her husband and two beautiful children.
